Charleston Hughes

Few players have terrorized CFL quarterbacks like Charleston Hughes. Over a remarkable 14-season career spanning 202 games with Calgary, Saskatchewan, and Toronto, the Northwood University product built a Hall of Fame resume. Hughes recorded 526 tackles, 52 tackles for loss, 16 defensive takeaways, and three return touchdowns, but he was best known for getting after the quarterback. A five-time CFL sack leader, he finished with 136 career sacks, including 99 with the Calgary Stampeders, tying the franchise’s all-time record. His dominance earned him six All-CFL selections and eight divisional All-CFL honours. He was a finalist for Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2013. Hughes appeared in four Grey Cups, capturing one championship. Relentlessly productive and consistently dominant, Charleston Hughes was one of the greatest pass rushers in Canadian football history.
