Maurice "Smitty" Smith

Maurice “Smitty” Smith’s career with the Winnipeg Free Press spanned over 50 years, the last 33 years as its Sports Director. A staunch supporter and critic of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, he covered 33 consecutive Grey Cups.

       An originator of the Canadian High School Curling Championships, he also served on the Selection Committee of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.

       Maurice “Smitty” Smith was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum, Football Reporters of Canada wing in 1982.
